What is being investigated.
Sir Daniel Marston has written four novels regarded as masterpieces. In each one he has hinted at scandal and corruption within a prominent family. In his memoirs, he planned to give the details of the scandals, but he is murdered while the work is in progress. A biographer is named, with the promise that the secrets will still be revealed.
The Team.
Alex Sabin. The biographer. An award-winning investigative journalist, ex-Parachute regiment officer and former European heavyweight judo champion. Lifelong friend and rival of Marston He slept first with Marston’s university girlfriend, then with his first wife. In revenge, Marston married Sabin’s ex-wife.
Lady Anna Marston. Distinguished economist. Widow of author Sir Daniel Marston and divorced ex-wife of Sabin. She is very protective of Marston and wants the book to focus only on the four secrets, not his private life.
Lauren Anderson. Sharp elbowed, ambitious New York publisher. She sees the Marston book as her way to the top and wants plenty of personal background included to spice up the biography.
Flavia Ferranti. Known as Ferret for her outstanding research skills who also has her own sensitive secret to hide.
Metropolitan Police Commander, Jack Penfold. Technically in charge of keeping the team safe but actually more concerned with the political implications of what Sabin finds out.
The threat.
It soon becomes clear that someone has hired an infamous arsonist, known as Firework Man, to stop the project at any cost.
